Renting a bike here for the first time is straightforward, but a few things trip up visitors every season. This is the same rundown we give every guest at pickup — worth reading before you arrive so you're not figuring it out at the counter.
Check your license requirements
You'll need a valid motorcycle license from your home country plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) with a motorcycle endorsement for anything over 125cc. Local police checkpoints do ask for both, and rental insurance is void without the correct paperwork. If your home license doesn't cover motorcycles, smaller scooters under 125cc have different requirements — ask us before you book if you're not sure which category you need.
Inspect before you ride
Walk around the bike with whoever hands over the keys. Check the tires for wear, test both brakes in the parking lot, and confirm the fuel level matches what's on your rental agreement. Take a few photos of any existing scratches or dents before you leave — it takes two minutes and avoids any confusion at drop-off.
Understand the insurance
Ask exactly what's covered and what isn't. Most policies here exclude off-road damage and anything that happens without a helmet, so read the fine print rather than assuming. We include full coverage with every rental as standard, but not every operator does.
Pack for changing weather
Mountain routes can be 10°C cooler than the coast and afternoon rain is common outside the dry season. A packable rain shell weighs nothing and saves a miserable ride home. If you didn't bring one, ours comes included — just ask.
